Description

314km cycling route starting from Llandrindod Wells. Controls at Tregaron and Llanidloes, plus 3 information controls.

A multi-surface 300km event, based on the 400km event. Styled to take riders on an adventure to test not only a rider’s strength but also their capability to plan a ride. This ride is not to be taken lightly!

Starting from Llandrindod Wells, the ride takes the road to Beulah and onwards to Tregaron. As a ‘warmer-up’, the Devil’s Staircase is the first challenge of the day. After a breather passing through the Cors Caron nature reserve on the NCR82 the ride heads back East on tracks alongside the Claerwen Reservoir to the Elan Valley. Rising up the Elan Valley and down to the head of The Cwmystwyth Valley, the ride then follows the old NCR818 to Llangurig and the N8 onto Llanidloes. There will be a choice of nominated control cafes here. The ride then continues through the Hafren Forest, Staylittle, Machynlleth to the coastal town of Tywyn. Onwards to Dolgellau along NCR82. Rising out of Dolgellau on through Dinas Maldwydd the ride then heads along fast roads to Caersws before taking quiet lanes back to Llandrindod.

The event will require the rider to plan for some stages with rough lanes, some sections are on tracks and it is recommended that bikes are fitted with a minimum of 28mm tires. The entire route is on public rights of way, some stretches are on recognised National cycle routes, and some sections are traffic-free.
