Description
200km cycling route starting from Llandrindod. Controls at Llanidloes and Machynlleth, plus 2 information controls.
A challenging ride around the mid Walaes desert. A few stretches of off-road, all have been ridden on road bikes with 28mm tyres. Controls are placed to encourage riders to plan their ride to suit their own needs.
Leaving Llandrindod Wells, after Newbridge-on-Wye the ride starts a familiar theme of lanes and track. You pick up an info control and head through the Elan Valley – for a checkpoint adjacent to Craig Goch dam. Then onwards through Valleys to Llanidloes for a stop to refuel. Out through thr pretty Hafren Dorest and ever onwards to yoir next control at Machynlleth . You’re now just over halfway,, so time to check your time, provisions and state of your bike.
Onwards now for the final stage, it’s long, but there are places near or on the route to refuel yourself if required. Following a quick burn up to and through Dolgor where you take a left turn towards Knighton. Once you reach and crest the common you’ll enjoy a rest for many km. Right through Knucklas and it’s cross country enjoy a few more challenges before returning to Llandrindod Wells. You will have earned your drink and eat at the social gathering on Sunday morning.
